Atlas L UV Sterilisers – Professional UV Water Treatment

The Atlas UV Range represents a comprehensive series of ultraviolet water sterilisation systems designed for residential and light commercial applications. Available in six models from the compact L8 through to the high-capacity L79, these systems deliver reliable, chemical-free water disinfection for flow rates ranging from 8 to 79 litres per minute. Built with 304 stainless steel reactors and featuring advanced controllers with lamp life monitoring, the Atlas L UV Range provides professional-grade water treatment with minimal maintenance requirements.

Proven UV Sterilisation Technology

The Atlas L UV water steriliser utilises standard output UV lamps operating at 254 nanometres to deliver effective microbiological inactivation at 30mJ/cm² in water with 95% UV transmittance. Each system features a robust stainless steel reactor chamber with a replaceable quartz sleeve that protects the UV lamp whilst allowing maximum UV penetration to the water. The controller continuously monitors lamp operation and counts down remaining lamp life, ensuring users replace lamps before disinfection effectiveness diminishes.

Complete Model Range for Varied Applications

The Atlas L UV water steriliser offers six models to match different household and commercial requirements: the L8 (8 lpm) and L12 (12 lpm) suit smaller properties or point-of-use applications, whilst the L22 (22 lpm) and L41 (41 lpm) accommodate typical family homes. The L57 (57 lpm) and L79 (79 lpm) models provide higher capacity for larger properties or light commercial use. All models maintain the same quality construction and can be upgraded with optional UV intensity monitoring sensors for enhanced water quality assurance.

Simple Installation and Maintenance

Atlas L UV water steriliser systems install vertically or horizontally using the supplied mounting brackets, with inlet at the bottom preferred to facilitate air purging. Each unit arrives with all necessary components including controller, UV lamp, quartz sleeve with compression spring, gland nut, O-ring and lamp key (L/LH models). Port sizes range from ½” MNPT on smaller models to 1″ MNPT on the L57 and L79, accommodating standard plumbing connections. Annual maintenance involves cleaning the quartz sleeve and replacing the UV lamp every 12 months, both straightforward procedures detailed in the comprehensive owner’s manual.

Advanced Control Features

Atlas L UV water steriliser controllers feature either a tri-colour LED with 4-digit display (LE models) or a full-colour LCD screen (L models), both providing clear system status indication and lamp life countdown. The controllers accept multiple expansion modules through the Infinite Expandability Port, including UV intensity sensors, solenoid valve modules, volt-free alarm contacts, 4-20mA output modules and Ethernet connectivity. This modularity allows systems to integrate with building management systems or provide remote monitoring capabilities when required.

Quality Water Treatment Standards

Operating within parameters of 0.7-10.3 bar pressure and 2-40°C water temperature, Atlas L UV water steriliser systems comply with WRAS approval standards for drinking water applications. The systems require water meeting specific quality parameters including hardness below 120 mg/L, iron below 0.3 mg/L, manganese below 0.05 mg/L, turbidity below 1 NTU and UV transmittance above 85%. Pre-filtration to at least 5 microns is recommended before the UV system to ensure optimal disinfection performance and protect the quartz sleeve from fouling.

When to Consider the H Range

For applications requiring flow rates above 79 litres per minute, demanding continuous operation, hot water disinfection, low UV transmittance water, or TOC reduction applications, the Atlas H UV water steriliser range (high output lamp systems) provides enhanced performance. The Atlas UV H Range models: H38, H53, H95 and H151; utilise more powerful UV lamps with 316L stainless steel reactors for increased durability and can be specified with optional cooling fans or temperature relief valves for demanding installations.

Frequently asked questions

Not unless your water supply is contaminated with tennis balls. A UV unit offers absolutely no filtration what so ever. The term “UV filter” is a bit of a personal annoyance. A UV disinfection system will often come with filtration options but the UV unit itself has no integrated filtration.

Yes you can but we wouldn’t recommend it. UV lamps are manufactured to be left on 24/7 for one whole year. If the UV lamp is switched off,  then bacteria can migrate through the chamber so the next time you turn the tap on, untreated water will come out. As well as that, the filaments in UV lamps are weak so they will become damaged very quickly being turned on and off a lot.

Typically 9,000 hours or 1 year. After this, the UV lamp will still be on (you can still see the blue light) but it won’t give out an appropriate UV dose. Some UV lamps using newer technology will last 2 for years now. These are usually used for bigger applications though.

We recommend you do use a pre-filter to protect the UV unit. Without a pre-filter, quartz fouling is more likely as is UV shadowing. For drinking water you should be looking at using a 5 − 25μ filter cartridge with it.
